Fațada

Fiind situată într-una din intersecțiile informe și haotice din București, unde intervențiile pentru crearea axelor de secol XIX (Bulevardul Carol I) și penetrările cu modificarea cursului unor artere istorice de la sfârșitul secolului XX (Calea Moșilor) intră în coliziune cu țesutul vechi, și unde pereții sunt plini de panouri de publicitate și reclame de tot felul, fațada librăriei ar putea crea o diferență și implicit vizibilitate prin opoziție cu vecinătățile. Propunând un moment de liniște în larma dimprejur. Momentul de liniște este propice funcțiunilor propuse – librărie și galerie.

Când toate celelalte reclame înaintează cât mai mult în exterior, vom folosi fereastra mare a spațiului librăriei pentru a proiecta imaginea ei din interior.

Librăria lasă trecătorului privirea să treacă înăuntru prin marea fereastră și să îî poftească acolo și pașii. Fiind fațadă orientată nord, nu este nevoie de elemente speciale pentru protecție solară.

Altfel, un anunț pe pânză iluminat din zona interioară a vitrinei anunță o surpriză, un eveniment. Anunțurile pot fi schimbate ușor înlocuind ruloul precedent cu unul nou. În acest fel, asupra spațiului și a ceea ce acesta conține se poate menține o atenție constantă.

Interiorul

Ordonarea ortogonală a accesului în imobil față de Bd. Carol I în raport cu geometria cadastrului neregulat, aduc în micul spațiu al librăriei ambele geometrii. Peretele est este perpendicular pe fațadă în timp ce peretele vest se supune unei geometrii anterioare trasării bulevardului. Unul este neted, celălalt prezintă nișe și fostul coș de fum. Observând aceste lucruri m-am gândit că librăria-galerie va putea folosi acest accident geometric. Librăria, depozitul de cărți, cu rafturi ce preferă ortogonalitatea vor îmbrăca peretele estic și sudic iar galeria va utiliza peretele vestic. Peretele estic va fi mobilat cu un mobilier fix iar peretele vest va avea elemente ușoare de mobilier, pe roți, care permit posibile reconfigurări ale spațiului. O masă mare va servi atât ca zonă de lucru, cât și ca zonă de lectură, de primire, de discuții.

Reflexia nișelor și a unei geometrii „vechi” de pe peretele vest se află în mobilierul de pe peretele est. Acesta este desenat ca o arhitectură ce crește prin deschiderea paginilor cartonate a cărților pentru copii. Și, ca în orice castel, există o ușă secretă în bibliotecă. Astfel, grupul sanitar și depozitarea sunt disimulate în bibliotecă.

Reflexia netezimii peretelui estic se traduce în spațiul galeriei prin mai multe obiecte perfect ortogonale, moderne, chiar albe în conceptul propus, obiecte moderne, mobile. Toate bibliotecile și chiar masa au roți. Pereții rămân liberi, în așteptarea operelor de artă ce vor fi expuse în galerie.

Utilizarea

Accesul în librărie permite o privire completă asupra spațiului. Biblioteca are spațiu de depozitare pentru cărți și elemente pentru a afișa noutățile și recomandările.

Librarul stă, cum se cuvine, în capul mesei de unde are o vedere completă asupra spațiului și asupra străzii. Spațiul librăriei se exprimă în culori discrete. O nuanță de gri deschis definește atât pereții cât și pardoseala. Mobilierul bibliotecii principale este negru, ca acum, iar elementele mobile sunt albe.

Mobilierul bibliotecii rămâne înalt însă nu atât de înalt precum în situația actuală. Am căutat o proporție plăcută care să utilizeze și în același timp să pună în evidență înălțimea plafonului existent.

Pentru iluminatul comercial, șinele suspendate de tavan pe care se montează spoturi sunt cele mai bune, la fel ca pentru galerie. Se pot orienta și/sau monta mai multe sau mai puține spoturi în funcție de nevoie.

Facade

Being located in one of the shapeless and chaotic intersections in Bucharest, where the interventions for the creation of the 19th century axes (Carol I Boulevard) and the penetrations with the modification of the course of some historical arteries from the end of the 20th century (Calea Moșilor) collide with the old tissue, and where the walls are full of billboards and advertisements of all kinds, the facade of the bookstore could create more visibility through opposition. Proposing a moment of silence is conducive to the proposed functions – bookstore and gallery.

When all the other ads advance as far outside as possible, we will use the large window of the bookstore space to project its image from the inside.

The bookstore lets the passer-by look inside through the large window and lust for his footsteps there. Being a north-facing façade, no special elements are needed for sun protection.

Otherwise, an advertisement on a canvas lit from the inside of the window announces a surprise, an event. Ads can be easily changed by replacing the previous roll with a new one. In this way, a constant focus can be maintained on the space and what it contains.

Interior

The orthogonal ordering of the access to the building compared to Carol I Blvd. in relation to the geometry of the irregular cadastre, brings both geometries in the small space of the library. The east wall is perpendicular to the facade while the west wall is subject to a geometry prior to the layout of the boulevard. One is smooth, the other has niches and the former chimney. The bookstore-gallery could make use of this geometric accident. The bookcase, the bookstore, with shelves that prefer orthogonality will cover the east and south wall while the gallery will use the west wall. The east wall will be furnished with fixed furniture and the west wall will have light furniture elements on wheels, allowing multiple configurations. A large table will serve as work, reading, reception and discussion area.

The reflection of the niches and an „old” geometry on the west wall is in the furniture on the east wall. It is designed as an architecture that grows by opening the cardboard pages of children’s books. And, as in any castle, there is a secret door to the library. Thus, the bathroom and storage are hidden in the library.

The reflection of the smoothness of the eastern wall translates in the gallery space through several perfectly orthogonal, modern objects, even white in the proposed concept, modern, mobile objects. All libraries and even the table have wheels. The walls remain free, waiting for the works of art that will be exhibited in the gallery.

Use

Access to the library allows a complete view of the space. The library has storage space for books and items to display news and bookstore recommendations.

The bookseller sits, properly, at the head of the table from where he has a complete view of the space and the street. The bookstore space is expressed in discreet colours. A light shade of grey defines both the walls and the floor. The main library furniture is black, as now, and the movable elements are white.

The library furniture remains high but not as high as in the current situation. We looked for a pleasant proportion that would use and at the same time highlight the height of the existing ceiling.

For commercial lighting, the suspended ceiling rails on which the spotlights are mounted are the best, just like for the gallery. More or fewer spots can be oriented and / or mounted as needed.
